FX Rates from Interest-Rate Momentum
Log in to collectTeaser
Universe: EFA, EWJ, EWG, EWU, EWC, BIL. Parameters: rebalance=daily.
Strategy in a nutshell
The strategy trades 11 major dollar pairs on the momentum of interest-rate differentials. Positions are reset twice a day, at the London close and at the New York close.
Economic rationale
Rate differentials do not jump straight into the spot rate. Momentum in the differential leads the currency, especially around the two fixes when global flow is concentrated. Trading only those windows keeps the portfolio out of the thin hours between them. The lab runs the same rebalance rule on liquid ETFs (EFA, EWJ, EWG, EWU, EWC, BIL). That is the tradable stand-in for the paper's original single-name or derivatives universe, and the performance figures are from this ETF backtest.
Entry & exit
Entry
On each trading day, rank EFA, EWJ, EWG, EWU, EWC, BIL by 126-day return and equal-weight the strongest 3 name(s).
Exit
Sell any holding that falls out of the top 3 at the next rebalance and rotate into the new leaders.
Market data required
Needs at least 126 adjusted daily closes on EFA, EWJ, EWG, EWU, EWC, BIL before the first signal is ready. ETF columns print on exchange sessions only. The lab loads Yahoo Finance via backtest.data.load_daily_prices.
